We are a modern legal practice based in Helston in the very pleasant south of Cornwall, working with a highly professional and dedicated team of legal and support staff. Our clients include private individuals, small and medium size businesses and farming families and the practice is growing – mainly by recommendation from existing clients and professional colleagues. We have strong local links and we also work on a national level taking it as a compliment that many clients have chosen to stay with us long after leaving the area. Some clients continue to instruct us from the opposite side of the world. We have a team who specialise in a range of legal related matters and include members of recognised specialist panels such as the Law Society’s Conveyancing Quality Scheme. Normal office hours are 9.00 am to 5.00 pm, Monday to Friday (not shutting for lunch) We are also open until 8.00pm on Wednesday evening, but if these times are difficult we will do our best to arrange an interview at a time to suit you. If you’re passing, just call in – an appointment isn’t always necessary and there’s always good coffee in the pot! But we are not glued to our office chairs and much of our work is done away from the office, so please tell us if a home, office or hospital visit would be helpful.  

Stamp Duty Land Tax
On 25th November 2015 the Chancellor announced higher rates for Stamp Duty Land Tax (SDLT) on the purchase of additional residential properties over £40,000. The higher rate will be 3% above the current SDLT rate and becomes effective on 1st April 2016 – see table below:

The next £125,000 2% 5%
The next £675,000 5% 8%
The next £575,000 10% 13%
Remainder over £1,500,000 12% 15%

Where the Buyer has exchanged contracts before 25th November 2015 then the additional rate will not be charged even if completion is after 1st April 2016. Where contracts are exchanged after 25th November then completion must be before 1st April otherwise the additional 3% rate will be payble.
